Course Description

This course is aimed at NetWare 5.x system administrators who are moving to NetWare 6.0. It covers

the new features included in NetWare 6.0.

Prerequisites: To ensure your success, we recommend you first take the following Element K courses or

have equivalent knowledge:

 

NetWare 5.1: System Administration

 

NetWare 5.1: Advanced System Administration

Delivery Method: Instructor-led, group-paced, classroom-delivery learning model with structured handson

activities.

Hardware/Software Requirements

 

A server-class PC with a minimum of a Pentium II or AMD K7 processor; we recommend a

two-way Pentium III 700 MHz or higher processor.

 

A minimum of 256 MB of RAM; we recommend 512 MB of RAM.

 

Super VGA or higher resolution display adapter.

 

A DOS partition of at least 200 MB and 200 MB of available space; we recommend 1 GB of

available space.

 

A minimum of 3 GB of available disk space outside the DOS partition for volume SYS:; we

recommend 4 GB.

 

One network board.

 

A CD drive; we recommend a bootable CD drive that supports the El Torito specification.

 

A USB, PS/2, or serial mouse.

 

NetWare 6.0 with enough end-user licenses for each student and the instructor.

 

NetWare 6.0 for each student to install during class. Demo or eval copies may be used.

 

Server licenses for each student server. You can request server licenses from

www1.novell.com/eld/LRequest.jsp?ENCRYPTION=NW6.

 

Copies of the Novell Client CD-ROM for each student (or mount the CD on the server during the

lesson Installing a NetWare 6.0 Server).

 

Windows 2000 Professional for each student and instructor workstation.

 

A printer to attach to the classroom network. It is strongly recommended that you use a printer

that can be attached directly to the network in order to configure it with an IP address.

Performance-Based Objectives

 

Install NetWare 6.0.

 

Manage network resources through iManage.

 

Configure and use iFolder.

 

Install and configure print services using iPrint.

 

Manage NSS volumes through ConsoleOne and use new file system access tools.

 

Monitor and diagnose the servers in the tree using iMonitor.
