Course Description

Overview: This course teaches you how to migrate pre-Exchange 2000 organizations to Exchange

2000. This course will also assist you in preparing for Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer Exam

#70–225, Designing and Deploying a Messaging Infrastructure with Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.

Prerequisites: To ensure your success, we recommend you first take the

 

Microsoft Exchange 2000 Administration: Element K course or have equivalent knowledge.

Hardware/Software Requirements: You will need:

 

One computer for each student and at least two computers for the instructor. Setup instructions

for an optional third instructor computer are included.

 

At least 256 MB of RAM for the student computers and the instructor computers.

 

At least a 2 GB hard drives for all computers, except the first instructor computer which should

be at least 4GB.

 

A Pentium 166 MHz processor or faster.

 

A VGA or higher resolution video card and monitor.

 

A mouse or compatible pointing device.

 

A 12 X (or faster) CD-ROM drive.

 

A network adapter and network cabling.

 

A licensed copy of Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server for half the students student.

 

A licensed copy of Microsoft Windows 2000 Server or Advanced Server for each computer.

 

A licensed copy of Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 Enterprise Edition for half the students and

the instructor.

 

A licensed copy of Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Enterprise Edition for each student and

the instructor.

 

A licensed copy of Microsoft Outlook 2000 for each student and the instructor.

For the instructor's computer only, a display system to project the instructor's screen and PowerPoint

slides.

The following software can be found in either Microsoft TechNet or MSDN.

 

Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6 or later.

 

Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 or higher.

 

Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Option pack.

 

Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 or later.

 

Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 Service Pack 4 or later.

 

Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 Service Pack 1 or later.

 

The Active Directory Migration Tool.

Performance-Based Objectives

Lesson objectives help students become comfortable with the course, and also provide a means to

evaluate learning. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

 

Design deployment and migration strategies for Exchange 2000 and apply these strategies

based on an organizations needs.

 

Migrate a Windows NT domain to Windows 2000 Active Directory using the Active Directory

Migration Tool (ADMT).

 

Migrate data from an Exchange 5.5 organization to a Windows 2000 Active Directory domain

using the Windows 2000 Active Directory Connector (ADC).

 

Perform an in-place upgrade of an Exchange 5.5 organization to Exchange 2000.

 

Install an Exchange 2000 server into an Exchange 5.5 organization.

 

Migrate an Exchange 5.5 organization to an Exchange 2000 organization using the Exchange

Server Migration Wizard.
