To run this course you will need a computer for the instructor and each student that meets the following

specifications:

 

At least 64 megabytes (MB) of Random Access Memory (RAM).

 

A 2 GB or larger hard disk.

 

A 486DX66 MhZ processor or faster.

 

A VGA or higher resolution video card and monitor.

 

A mouse or compatible tracking device.

 

A 12X CD-ROM drive (if installation is done from CD-ROM).

 

A network adapter and network cabling.

 

A Sound card (optional: headphones or speakers).

 

A reliable connection to the Internet for all computers.

 

A licensed copy of Windows NT Server 4.0 with Service Pack 4 or later, or Windows 2000

Server for the instructor and each student.

 

A licensed copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 for the instructor and each student.

 

A licensed copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 for the instructor and each student.

 

A licensed copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit 5 for the instructor and each

student. We recommend that you obtain IEAK on CD-ROM, as this allows you to avoid the

Automatic Version Synchronization. You can copy the CD-ROM to each student's hard drive

and have them install from this location during class.

For the instructor's computer only, a display system to project the instructor's computer screen.

Course description

Overview: Students will explore the architecture and significant features of Microsoft Internet Explorer

5 and the Internet Explorer Administration Kit. Information provided in this course enables students to

set up, configure, use, and deploy Internet Explorer in a network environment with specific emphasis on

intranet business use, and create browser packages with the Administration Kit.

Prerequisites: Students should have experience with Internet Explorer 4 or 5. In addition, they should

have an understanding of computer networking fundamentals.

Delivery method: Instructor-led, group-paced, classroom-delivery learning model with structured handson

activities.

Target student: This course is an introduction-level course. No system administration knowledge needed.

Performance-based objectives

Lesson objectives help students become comfortable with the course, and also provide a means to

evaluate learning. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

 

Install Internet Explorer 5.

 

Configure Internet Explorer 5, including configuring Internet Options, temporary files, and

implementing Active Desktop.

 

Manage Internet Explorer components, including Outlook Express.

 

Configure Internet Explorer security options.

 

Install IEAK and create an Internet connection using the Connection Manager Administration

Kit.

 

Create a customized Internet Explorer package with IEAK.

 

Configure and maintain a customized Internet Explorer package.
